Set after the events seen in Borderlands 2, Tales from the Borderlands is about Rhys, a Hyperion company man looking to become the next Handsome Jack, and it’s also about Fiona, a Pandoran con artist out to score the biggest of all swindles. Especially one about a Vault key, the Hyperion Corporation, bandits, loot, gangsters, Vault Hunters, secret Atlas tech, explosions, getaways, extortion, betrayal, and mayhem. Like all good tales, there’s more than one side to a story. It is aimed at an unashamedly core audience of console players gamers who enjoy tight, emergent, mechanics-driven games, understand the arcade linage of the title and appreciate the distinct visual style. Inspired by classic coin-up arcade games, the game captures the feel of the Neo-Geo era, but with breath-taking hand-drawn artwork that takes advantage of the power of modern games consoles. Centred on the classic couch multiplayer experience, and supporting up to four players - the game also features a full single-player campaign, and a range of game modes to master. Players select from a diverse range of these extreme sportspeople, and they are rewarded for playing with style, dynamism, and risk taking not simply for being the fastest or strongest. There exists a secret group of international thrill-seekers, who meet up at sky scrapers planned for demolition to race and fight one another to reach the top before the building hits the ground… or they do. ![]() ![]() SkyScrappers is a classic, arcade-style, multiplayer platform-fighting game set in the heart of an exploding sky scraper.

![]() And though it does reduce the prospect of overwhelming any users with ambiguous tools, those who are more into in-depth monitoring will have to do a bit of minor digging but overall, things aren't too hard to find despite the minimal guidance.ģ60 Internet Security does come with a couple of competitive features for not just local and Web-based protection, but also a couple of privacy protection measures like anti-keylogging and unauthorized Webcam hijacking, which isn't common among other security suites. It's both good and bad in that for the casual user, the malware scanner is front and center while most other complex tools, options, and features stay out of the way. There is a decent number of useful tools under the hood, but not a whole lot of obvious signs of the existence of these monitoring features, at least at first glance. Overall, 360 IS's general interface remained easy to use but also lacks a bit of direction in some areas. On the plus side, these menu options did seem a bit odd at first, but at least they weren't invasive. In the second row, a giant check mark and a small arrow tab in the center both reveal a pull-down menu with added filtering options, as well as some stats on the number of blocked items. The upper-right area sports the standard closing and minimizing buttons, as well as a drop-down menu that lives alongside them. ![]() 360 is no exception: the interface, menus, and buttons are all bright, clean, and simulates Windows 8's switch-toggle option items. Modern AV programs have been following suit after Windows 8's design makeover by incorporating bright, flat UI elements into their programs. ![]() For the purpose of this review, we chose to opt out of the toolbar and focus on the core 360 IS experience. Again, layering multiple AV programs is generally bad practice, but if used in a corporate environment with preinstalled security software, you might have to take into consideration that 360 IS may not function properly with any neighboring security suites.ģ60 also gives you the option of installing a Chrome extension, but in an unconventional accepting or cancelling call to action. The setup process will then notify you of any potentially conflicting AV programs you have already installed and give you the option of uninstalling them. Still, the opt-out option might appear a bit suspicious, especially for users who are simply trying out the software. And though it's more or less required to move on, those who are more keen on privacy details or interested in the terms of agreement should keep this in mind before they install the software. Prior to installation, 360 will automatically prompt you to agree to their license and usage terms, something that's normally an opt-out process. The installer is a light 17MB, and though the overall installation time and duration was relatively fast, it's update process took longer than we had expected. 360 Internet Security 2013 is anti-virus and anti-malware protection software for Windows PCs. ![]() More interestingly, the name "Citadel" came up, which Gabe also denied any knowledge of. The reporter did try the old standby of asking about sequels to both Half-Life and Portal, and Newell successfully avoided the topic yet again. In particular, the long development of Half-Life: Alyx has excited his teams about single-player games again, heavily implying that the next revealed games from the company would go that route over the multiplayer angle that dominated Valve's output throughout the last 15 years. Whereas the Steam of yesterday was a marketplace full of unchecked asset flips and decade-old tech, today's PC launcher is making huge strides towards upgrading the experience and focusing player attention on games that deserve it. This is seemingly in part due to the release of the Epic Games Store and the massive success of Fortnite, which shook Valve off of its assured spot atop the PC gaming industry. Despite the game having heavy financial requirements to play, it was praised heavily by critics and fans who could access it and spurred discussion that Valve would return to bigger projects like this sooner rather than later.Īnyone who follows Steam news religiously is well aware that Valve seems to have turned a corner in terms of productivity. After an interminable slumber and the muted launches of smaller games like Artifact, the development house behind Counter-Strike, Team Fortress, and Ricochet returned with Half-Life: Alyx, a VR killer app if there ever was one. A new interview with Gabe Newell has revealed that not only is Valveworking on new projects, but it is excited about single-player games once again. Ubisoft even created a language with the help of historical linguists to play up the realism.Because of the prehistoric setting, the game features weapons like bows, clubs, and spears. You have to choose your menu, and you can also pick how you want to decorate your restaurant. The other side of the game has you managing your own restaurant, and this involves a bit more work. You get called to a restaurant with a set menu and just do your best to survive. And if you just play the Chef Request missions, that’s all you’ll need to manage. But you know, you can still learn to manage it all. I’d imagine this worked a bit better on PC. It’s admittedly tough to keep on top of things using a regular controller. There’s always something to keep you busy in this game, so don’t count on getting even a moment’s rest once the customers start spilling in. While you’re doing all of that cooking, you’ll also need to keep the restaurant clean by performing various other tasks. The clock keeps ticking and the customers keep coming, but if you serve enough of them in a satisfying enough way, you’ll clear the mission and collect your rewards. Some orders have a lot of different options, and you’ll have to make use of some slightly clunky combinations of buttons to page through lists. You can prepare certain things ahead of time and keep them in holding areas, allowing you to quickly serve customers, but your holding areas are limited so you’ll have to gauge demand accurately if you want to make the most of them. As preparing the dish takes time, you can pick up and manage multiple orders so that everyone will leave happy. You have to prepare their special order and serve it to them before they lose patience. Customers come in and make a request, and a timer starts ticking down. If you’ve played a time management game before, you’ll be familiar with the basics here. There are 400 missions to clear across 33 different restaurants, and you’ll have to cook up a boggling large variety of foods along the way. And by soon, I mean like 40 hours later, because this game is absolutely massive. Through hard work and nimble fingers, you will soon be the almighty restaurant ruler of the universe once more. Except here you ostensibly start with your cool restaurant you finished building at the end of the first game, only to lose it all and be forced to start from scratch again with yet another hole in the wall. If you enjoy this series, like time management games, or can appreciate the subtle beauty of trying to keep several plates spinning at once, you can’t go wrong here.Īnyway, the story is the same as the first one, more or less. Ah geez, I just spoiled the whole review. This is a rock-solid port of a very good game, and it suits both handheld play and TV play equally well. ![]() Many combat encounters can be circumvented using stealth techniques, but just as Metal Gear Solid can be said to be at its worst when fighting against its combat mechanics, Raiden isn’t built to sneak. Revengeance is like a mirror’s reflection of the Metal Gear formula in that it offers both stealth and combat, but places a reversed focus and value on them. To do anything else would probably have been disingenuous, simply because violent battle is the primary activity players will engage in and it is tremendously enjoyable. But it may inadvertently send the wrong message, as the horror of the realization is quickly consumed entirely by a gleeful acknowledgement and acceptance of Raiden’s monstrous nature, launching into even greater depths of violence. At a time in our industry when games are under scrutiny for the violent content they contain and the effect it may have on society, Revengeance arrives at the perfect opportunity to address this. While certainly befitting what has come before, it’s unfortunate that these well-worn concepts steal the thunder of a poignant mid-game sequence where the narrative does everything short of outright breaking the fourth wall to force the player to evaluate the violence they have engaged in and the pleasure they received as a consequence. Kojima’s influence on the story is most readily apparent in its themes, recycling ideas about the power and transmission of ideals found throughout the Metal Gear franchise. Recurring elements abound, from the composition of cutscenes and the ubiquitous punctuation marks over heads to the thematically linked team of enemy cyborgs, The Winds of Destruction. ![]() These often seem too subtle to expect players unfamiliar with the series to understand, but present no problems in understanding the plot, which is almost alarming in its straightforwardness for a title bearing the Metal Gear name.įrequent attempts are made to reinforce the idea that Rising belongs alongside the Solid series with tropes familiar to fans. Only one secondary character from Metal Gear Solid makes an appearance while passing references to other characters and events aren’t common. ![]() It feels as though it exists in a bubble all its own, a single instance where a crisis arises and is overcome, and the impact of these events feel largely resolved by the conclusion. In terms of contributing to the Metal Gear canon, Revengeance isn’t doing much which seems significant. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 ) When another outfit assassinates the Prime Minister of a government Maverick has a contract with, Raiden begins a campaign of vengeance which reveals a plan to jump start the War Economy back into operation and a sinister program of experimentation he is all too familiar with already. Some, such as Raiden and the company employing him (Maverick Security Consulting, Inc.), have turned their attention to security and training in developing nations, seeking to maintain the peace. In the aftermath, the cyborg soldiers of the private military companies which functioned as the lifeblood for this system were cast into the wind, searching for a purpose now that the wars they were built to fight no longer exist. Four years following the events of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, the world is still recovering from the fall of the War Economy, a program created to ensure a constant level of conflict on the globe for the purposes of profit and control. |
